Gestural abstractions

These expressive sculptures explore my interest in the boundaries between what we view to be physical and what we feel as emotional or even spiritual. I love to dance and I usually feel myself transported to a space where I can feel the weight and limitations of the moving body and lightness of the souring expansion of emotions and inner spirit.  Bronze is a very physical and tangible medium. So to explore these two contradictions I allow the original gestural workings to remain under worked. This way the light reflects off the surface of the bronze, breaking up the physical presence of the sculpture by the reflected light bouncing off the irregular surface, giving the sculpture a sense of movement and emotion. When I am sculpturing I allow my hands to connect with the emotional core of the subject- feeling the sculpture rather than controlling it through the intellect.
